Twenty years after Chernobyl, nuclear power is on the rise again, reports The Economist. Interestingly enough, Russian scientists have discovered a mineral that they claim can absorb radiation from liquid nuclear waste. That would very much come in handy for a nuclear renaissance.
We’re not experts on the matter, but we feel pretty good about the comeback of nuclear power. After all, it never really went away. It was just demonized in the West. Wouldn’t it rock if the US really harnessed the power of the atom for something constructive, not destructive?

The Washington Post reports that Coca-Cola is opening a large recycling plant in Spartanburg, SC in an effort to recycle or reuse all of its plastic bottles in the US. Good on them. There’s a lot of awareness about aluminum recycling, but there’s a whoooole lot more that could be done. We wonder if they would target aluminum next.

You don’t have the pay the power company to give you heating. Let the Sun do it instead. This resourceful blogger in Vermont painted some Sprite cans black to build a furnace to heat his garage. Unfortunately, the weather warmed up when he finished, but I’m sure he’ll put them to good use next winter.
