Upcoming Creation Care Conference in Orlando

Here at TCN, we’re always excited to see fellow believers raising awareness for environmental stewardship. A large church in Orlando is holding a conference for this very purpose. Here’s the official word:

It’s time for us to rediscover the Church’s responsibility to lead by example in Creation Care!

At the first-ever Creation Care Conference (C3) in Longwood, Florida, you’ll learn more about the biblical mandate to care for God’s creation and be equipped with tools to lead your church, college, or community in obeying that mandate.

At C3, we will explore and discuss a biblical perspective on how Christians everywhere might rediscover the value of caring for creation, uniting in our efforts to make a difference in the world for His glory.

God cares for the earth

You answer us with awesome deeds of righteousness, O God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself with strength, who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations.

Those living far away fear your wonders; where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy.

You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it.

We had another street cleanup of SW 5th Ave. this weekend. We got a good amount of trash, but it wasn’t too bad — probably because UF is on break this week, so the students are out of town. We’re not saying that college students are messy or anything! Like last time, it was also a prayer walk, which works well to keep focused on Christ when you’re picking up people’s litter and other things we won’t care to mention!

Alumination update

Just a quick note to say that we recycled aluminum cans at a recent camp for First Baptist Ft. Lauderdale, Florida! Even if it involved a little digging through trash to recover some lost cans, it was worth it. Tomorrow, we will recycle at an youth event at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Houston. Alumination is slowly getting around, praise God!

Really cleaned up

We had a street cleanup yesterday and it was a good one. To be honest, the roadsides of SW 5th Ave had apparently just been mowed, so there wasn’t too much trash to be picked up. Oh darn.

One very cool thing: as we walked along the road, we prayed for the people in the houses — that God would bless them and that they would know Jesus intimately and follow Him joyfully. And we prayed for the people who were walking, biking, and driving up and down the street, too.

Praise God that we could serve their physical needs and their spiritual ones as well. And when we showed joy in our work, it showed the joy that we have in Christ, even when handling people’s carelessly-thrown garbage. Cool!

Ignoring the horrible headline, we have started a new program! It’s called Alumination and it’s pretty simple: we want to encourage Christians to recycle aluminum cans. We plan to kick it off this summer for camp season. Check out our plan on the Alumination page.

A week has passed since the founding of our Facebook group, but as expected, the daily increase by a factor of 19 didn’t hold up. 94 million members would’ve been nice, but we’re very happy with the 81 that we have now!

We had another cleanup of SW 5th Ave yesterday morning. We gathered 6 bags of trash on that wonderfully clear morning. Most notable piece of trash: big watermelon rinds laying in the road.
